Play Power

Play is something we do purely for its own sake. When we are immersed in play, there is nothing else we need to be, do, or have. Playing is enough. The fun and celebration that we experience at this moment are the ultimate rewards. We believe that the activities we enjoy the most are the source of all the benefits that we could ever desire. Doing what we love seems to open the doors to the greatest boons that life has to offer.

Along with our sister organization, Act on Wisdom, we are committed to the ideals of peace, sustainability, and balance. PlayHaven operates at the local community level to create activities and events that are both play-based and in alignment with these values. There are many ways that our play, both individually and in groups, can help to realize each of these ideals:

• Peace.  We have found that the kinds of group experiences that PlayHaven facilitates have a way of fostering the universal values of unconditional acceptance, forgiveness, and community service. Hatred, judgment and violence are generally incompatible with the spirit of fun and celebration that is generated through this type of play. Our play is both an opportunity to experience the joy of the present moment and to share that joy with others.
• Sustainability. Inherent in the activity of play is a simple and fulfilling ideal: THE MORE, THE MERRIER. Whatever gifts we are granted through our play we seek to share with those around us. That attitude of selflessness and generosity is an important aspect of sustainability. Rather than seeing natural resources as commodities to be bought and sold, we see them as gifts to be shared. Our most fulfilling forms of play tend to involve creating and sharing rather than merely consuming. 
• Balance. By doing what we love, we create two of the most precious and elusive of human conditions: health and happiness. When we play, we lose ourselves in the moment, letting go of the pressures and stressors of daily life so that we can find serenity, equanimity, and true inspiration.
